Surviving The Pandemic Without Packing On Pounds

Yeah, it’s a real thing.

The amount of memes and funny parodies coming out at the moment are without a doubt, hilarious.

You know…

The one where someone walks up to a fridge and as they open it it says to them:

“Close the door. You’re not hungry. You’re just bored. Your fat butt doesn’t need any more food.”

It’s really funny, yet unbelievably true.

Before I get into the meat and golden nuggets of this article, let me clear something up with you first.

This is NOT an article about:

“Get into the best shape of your life while stuck at home!”

Or

“Stop eating food. Get outside in your garden and work out rather!”

Because…

I am battling too. I am in the same boat as you.

The only real difference between me and you is I know a few ways to make this a TINY bit easier for you.

So should we get into this then?

I agree.

1. Take The Pressure OFF (just a little…)

I’ve got so many clients at the moment who are in no simpler words “freaking out” about picking up weight, not training enough, eating too much, etc.

And I get it.

Your life has been flipped onto it’s head in a matter of WEEKS, and you’re overwhelmed.

My advice would be to just take a little step back for a second, and realize that the feelings and emotions you’re going through are 100% NORMAL, and natural.

Then, once you’ve taken a step back and realized that, think about this:

  • If you lose a little muscle? You can pick it up again.
  • If you gain a few pounds of fat? You can lose it again.

YES.

It IS that simple, friend.

If you fall off the wagon (which is okay sometimes, you’re a human being, not a robot), you can get back on.

2. Push Out Your Brekkie

Try your best to push out your breakfast.

‘But Ricky, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!’

Nope. It’s not. Far from it actually.

In fact, I would go as far as saying it’s ‘better’ for you to not eat breakfast.

You see. Breakfast is usually a very calorie-dense meal.

Avo on Toast – 400-500 calories before you’ve blinked. Add a rusk in there, a cappuccino? You’re now on 500-700.

Muesli and Yoghurt? Same thing.

Eggs, Bacon, Avo, and Toast? Same thing.

Now, it isn’t really a problem. If you enjoy breakfast, go wild. The only issue is if you’re consuming so many calories before 10am, you aren’t leaving many calories to ‘spend’ (eat) later in the day. So by the time you get to 5pm, the chances of you overeating for the amount you’re currently moving is pretty much guaranteed.

If you skip breakfast though and have a coffee or two to suppress your appetite?

You could easily start eating after 11am only. You’ve now compressed your eating window and you’re waaaaay less likely to overeat.

3. Add in a Little More Protein

You’ve probably heard this 100 times, and for good reason.

Protein not only helps build lean muscle and preserves lean muscle when you’re trying to lose body fat, but it ALSO makes you feel fuller for longer.

Now, in times like this when you stuck at home and you have unlimited access to your fridge?

YOU NEED TO FEEL FULLER FOR LONGER.

If you’re hungry all day – That’s a direct flight to destination fat.

So, make sure you’re trying to add a little more protein to your day in the forms of meat, fish, whey protein, eggs, or even a bit of greek yoghurt.

Adding just a little more (30-40g more) to your day will go a LONG way in helping you feel full, and again…

Less likely to eat cake and candy all day long.

4. SUPPORT

I’m going to end off on this one because it’s possibly the most important of them all.

Support.

If you don’t have good support, accountability, and guidance in times like this, none of the above 3 tips will work anyways.

This is a crazy time for every single person on this planet.

We need support and a bit of accountability to get used to this ‘new normal’ we’re all living through.

Whether it’s a conversation with your loved ones, a coach, or even a therapist of some kind?

DO IT.

There is no ‘strength’ in suffering alone.

Whether it be in weight loss, or mindset or relationships.

Reach out, and find the right support.

It will be the difference between you seamlessly achieving your goals, or, not achieving anything at all and then beating yourself up about it.

Got it?

I hope that helped you, and if it did?

Comment below and let me know. I’d love to connect with you!

Until next time.

Everything you’ve said resonates with me. I genuinely do better food-wise and calorie-wise if I go light on the calories in the morning. I’m also sure I read that the big research done to prove that breakfast is “the most important meal of the day” was paid for by Kelloggs…some food for thought right there…

100%! I am SO glad it resonates, Elisha! And yes, it would understandable why a breakfast brand would be very much ‘for’ eating breakfast! lol. What do you usually eat in the mornings?
